Oh my god, why does the top of LJ look so...? I use the russian layout ( Lanzelot ), partially because it looks and works better for me, partially because until now, they never got any of the banners from the monthly contests.

Apparently that's not going to stand anymore.

Look, I'm all for the banner contest, I think it's awesome, I'll probably start submitting to it. But I don't want it to apply to my viewing.options. LJ isn't even trying to effectively implement these, they just slap them on the top without making the links fit in any way whatsoever. If they were trying to put these banners in correctly (which cannot be argued as a time issue, if they're putting the banner in, they can change a few colours or put a spacer in), I would want them. LJ's taking some really good work and implementing it in really bad ways.

I'm sorry, but that gives me crippling pain, literally. This is not an exaggeration. It triggers my cluster headaches and occasional optical migraines. This is a health issue for me.

Cluster headaches are a huge problem, try looking them up. They're considered to be among the class of disorders where one suffers the most pain a human being can experience without dying. If you have this disease, this disorder, you have to learn what the triggers and anti-triggers are. One time, one of those perfume sprayers in the mall triggered a cycle that lasted for a month and required four trips to the ER, because when the pain hits a certain point that's the only thing they can do with you. I had to have 6 toradol shots, 4 morphine, 2 dilaudin, 1 benadryl shot, two benadryl bags and a steroid pack to break it. That's what I'm risking having to go into.

When I have LJ banners, I have a cluster headache triggered in an instant, and once it's triggered, there's no going back. The headache will last several hours, or, if not broken before it ends up in a 'cycle' (what we refer to a cluster headache and its accompanying, varying symptoms that last longer than a day as), an undetermined amount of time. My record so far is three months for one cycle.

But it's not just about that. I like how LJ looks when there isn't a banner. Why can't I opt out of it?

So I have to use Lynx now, but that cuts out a lot of features, because they never upgraded it to fit the new system. But it's not supposed to be, it's for the old phones and other low-level readers. So basically, now I'm being punished. I may have to go in and do what I did with last.fm, which is redo LJ's CSS so that it works properly for me.

I have to make this choice with a lot of sites, not just livejournal. I have to choose to either redesign the entire site myself and override it, or turn off page styles. Try doing that with LJ for a moment.

Yeah.

I feel like it's disrespecting the site when I have to redesign it and in livejournal's case, it's disrespecting the banner makers if I make the choice to strip their banner out, rather than use a site scheme that  never had it. But if it's a site I need and the admin of it made it impossible for me to look at, what other choice do I have? I'm sure I'm not the only one that has this issue.

This is why I wish I could just view everything on livejournal through dreamwidth, hah.

At least there's sites on the net that actually do the opposite, too. If a headache gets too hard to handle, sometimes I can just stare at Ansible's website and it will calm down the pain receptors from whatever they're doing. I'll still have pain, but it will feel 'smoothed out'.
