Can you stop being allergic to something?

I used to be allergic to most adhesives as well as latex and now, it seems, I'm just allergic to latex. Like, really allergic. In the fact that if they risk putting anything but paper tape on my IVs things go crazy. I could only wear foam bandaids because I would get hives so bad that I have a bandaid shaped scar.

But now I'm not reacting at all? I can wear regular bandaids and even use the menthol pain patches.

It's not that I'm not grateful, but I am incredibly confused.

They were considering putting me on nausea patches for awhile. I'm not nearly as bad now, but they couldn't do that because of my allergy. I'm going to be grateful since that means they can consider prescription pain patches for me now.

Which, speaking of those, I had a bright idea last night. I had a bunch of places that hurt a lot and I was like "I DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH PATCHES FOR THIS". Then I remembered, I have occipital neuralgia. Outside of fancy names, basically that means that a specific nerve is fucked up by something (in my case, it's stress, so it's not nerve damage, I just need to get referred for the proper physical therapy). In that being screwed up it causes a specific kind of headache, neck shoulder and back pain. It's kind of a lot of pain.

So I decided hey, put a menthol patch right where all the trouble is coming from. It hit my head like hell (made my migraines worse) but pretty much all my back and shoulder and neck pain was all gone. Which is interesting. I wonder what the pain doctor will make of that.

I really hope they give me my toradolIM soon, though. Or at least my Maxalt. The Midrin isn't doing anything to my headaches while the Maxalt works, but I'm out...

The way I understand it - It's possible with food allergies. I've never heard of it happening with *non-food* allergies though.
